The blue base is the mark of a good Goshiki

Look at the pale areas on this fish. They aren’t plain white — they carry a soft silvery-blue tone under the netting.

That blue is the Asagi in the Goshiki bloodline showing through, and it’s the detail experienced buyers check first. A Goshiki without it looks like a Kohaku with some dark netting. A Goshiki with it has real depth.

Deep crimson Hi

The Hi is a rich, dark red — saturated right through, with clean edges where it meets the white. No fading, no thin patches.

It runs in bold plates down the body and across the full head, finishing at a bright white nose and mouth.

Balanced pattern

A broad pale band crosses the shoulder and a clean wedge runs along the back. The Hi and the network alternate rather than one swamping the other.

That balance is what makes a Goshiki hold your attention as the fish moves.

Female, 44cm at two years

She is a confirmed female at 44cm, above the typical Nisai range.

Females carry more body volume through their lives and reach larger final sizes. Combined with strong growth already showing at two years old, this is a fish built to be grown on rather than one that has already peaked.

Gin Rin through the scales

Reflective scaling runs through the Hi and the network, lifting the whole pattern under direct light.

Body and finish

Straight body, good width through the shoulders, well-formed white fins. Clean Shiroji on the nose and underside.

Kawakami is a respected Niigata breeder with a strong reputation for Goshiki and Gin Rin work.

At Nisai she is still early in her development. Goshiki keep changing into their fourth and fifth year — the network tightens, the blue deepens, the Hi settles.
