Chagoi koi for sale at Orgrotech are imported directly from specialist breeders in Niigata, Japan. Chagoi (CHAH-goy) are a single-colour koi in shades of tea – from soft olive-green and light brown through to rich chocolate and copper. The name comes from cha, the Japanese word for tea.

What Chagoi lack in bold pattern they make up for in personality. They are famously the friendliest and most food-driven of all koi varieties, usually the first fish in the pond to hand-feed – and their confidence rubs off on the rest of the collection. Many keepers add a Chagoi purely to tame their other koi. They are also among the fastest-growing varieties, with well-bred fish capable of reaching impressive jumbo sizes.

On a quality Chagoi, look for an even, unblemished base colour, clean fukurin (the net-like shine along the scale edges), and strong body volume – frame and growth potential matter more here than in any patterned variety.
