Exceptional scale definition
This is the standout feature, and it’s worth looking at closely.
The scaling across the shoulder and flanks is unusually well defined. Each scale sits distinct against the next, giving the pale areas a beaded, three-dimensional texture rather than a flat finish.
On a Goshiki this is what you want. The variety lives or dies on how cleanly the individual scales read against the network.
Dark network over silver-white
Heavy dark reticulation runs across the shoulder in a tight, well-organised pattern. Below it the network breaks up into finer scattered markings over a bright silver-white base.
That contrast — concentrated netting at the front, open white further back — gives the fish real depth.
Bright red Hi
The Hi sits in defined plates: a bold cap across the head, a strong block through the mid-body, and smaller marks carrying down towards the tail.
The colour is a clean, bright red with sharp edges. It punctuates the pattern rather than dominating it, which is what lets the network do its work.
Female, 43cm at two years
She is a confirmed female at 43cm — solid growth for a Nisai.
Females carry more body volume through their lives and reach larger final sizes. Good size at two years old points to sound bone and appetite, which is what matters most in a fish you intend to grow on.
Body and finish
Long, straight body with clean lines. Well-formed white fins with a touch of Hi at the tail. Bright Shiroji throughout.
Breeder and potential
Kawakami is a respected Niigata breeder with a strong reputation for Goshiki work, and the scale quality here shows it.
At Nisai she has years of development ahead. Goshiki network tightens and deepens well into a koi’s fourth and fifth year.
