A female Isa Hi Showa — the Hi-dominant subtype of one of Niigata’s most prestigious Showa bloodlines. Hi Showa is a recognised variety expression where the Hi (red) dominates the body, with the Sumi (black) playing a restrained but essential role and the Shiroji (white) providing crisp contrast. It’s a bolder, more dramatic look than standard Showa, and it requires a confident breeder’s eye to select for — when Hi dominates this strongly, every bit of Sumi has to land exactly right or the pattern collapses.
The Hi on this fish is bright, deeply saturated, and forms a dominant wrap from head to mid-body — even tone, no patchiness, clean edges where it meets the Shiroji. The Sumi is restrained but technically correct: a confident shoulder cluster, well-placed accent markings, and the classic motoguro (black on the pectoral fin joints) that’s one of Showa’s signature traits. The Shiroji is exceptionally bright and clean, which is what allows both the dominant Hi and the restrained Sumi to read with full impact.
