A female Momotaro Sanke showing all the qualities that define this variety at its best. The Hi (red) is bright and saturated, forming the dominant pattern across the back with a strong wraparound onto the head — that signature Momotaro depth of red, with even tone and clean break edges into the Shiroji. The Sumi (black) is dramatic and well-placed, sitting as distinct accent markings on top of the Hi and white in the way Sanke Sumi should behave.
The Shiroji is exceptionally bright and unblemished, providing the clean backdrop that lets both the Hi and Sumi read with full impact. The Sumi placement gives the fish a strong central focal point — bold enough to anchor the eye without overwhelming the pattern as a whole.
Sanke is one of the three Gosanke varieties (alongside Kohaku and Showa), and it’s a fish that rewards close looking. The interplay between three colours is harder to balance than two, and Momotaro is one of the Niigata breeders that has refined this balance across decades of selective breeding. Body is straight with good shoulders and clean conformation. At 43cm with confirmed female status, there is significant growth and pattern development ahead, plus genuine breeding potential for collectors thinking long-term.
