That gap matters. Size at age tells you about bone structure and appetite, and both carry forward. A fish growing this well at two years old keeps growing.
A bolder pattern than most Goshiki carry
The Hi sits in solid, well-defined plates down the back rather than scattering into small patches. The colour is bright and saturated — a clean orange-red that holds its edges.
Underneath runs the Goshiki network. Fine dark reticulation over a bright white base, tight and evenly formed across the whole back. That net is what makes the variety.
The head is the character piece
A large solid Hi block wraps the nose and mouth. Above it sits a separate round mark on the head. Together they give the fish a face you remember — which counts for more than people expect when a buyer is choosing between three good koi.
Gin Rin through the pattern
The reflective scales run through both the Hi and the network. The sparkle shifts as the fish turns. In a pond under sun, this is the fish people point at.
Body and finish
Straight body. Good volume through the shoulders. Clean white fins, well-formed and undamaged. The Shiroji is bright — no yellowing, no shadow.
Breeder and potential
Kawakami is a respected Niigata breeder with a strong reputation for Goshiki and Gin Rin work. Goshiki develop for years — the network tightens, the Hi deepens, the contrast sharpens. At 44cm Nisai, this fish has both the size and the time.
