A Dainichi Showa carrying the signature qualities of one of Niigata’s most refined Showa bloodlines. The Sumi (black) has the soft, lacquered finish that Dainichi is specifically known for — dense, well-placed, and visually rounded rather than the sharper-edged Sumi of other breeders. The Hi (red) is bright and deeply saturated, breaking cleanly across the back and wrapping around the head and face. The Shiroji (white) is clean and bright, giving the entire pattern the contrast it needs to read clearly even at distance.
The face shows the classic Showa structure — Hi on the head balanced by surrounding Sumi, with the menware (the black pattern across the head) well-defined. The body is straight with strong shoulders, good volume through the midsection, and a clean tail tube.
Dainichi has been refining their Showa bloodlines for over 50 years, and the skin quality is what gives the breeder away every time — a soft, almost lacquered finish that distinguishes Dainichi fish from those of other Niigata farms. At 56cm she’s already a centrepiece-quality fish, and Showa from quality bloodlines like Dainichi continue to develop and refine well into maturity.
